BEFORE AND AFTER

What is a Gum Lift?
A gum lift is a dental procedure used to reshape or recontour the gums around the teeth that you show when you smile.

Types of Gum Lift Procedures
Laser Gum Contouring
Laser Gum Lift
Surgical Gum Lift

Who is a candidate?
People with a Gummy Smile or people who show too much of their gums when they speak, smile, or laugh.
People with an Uneven gum line making the teeth look like they are different sizes and shapes.
People who have Teeth that look too small or adults who feel like their teeth look like baby teeth since the teeth are so small.
People who have considered Botox to help bring their lip down to hide the gums from showing when they speak, smile, or laugh.

What are the steps?

The first step is generally an evaluation or consultation to determine if the patient is a candidate and also to determine which exact gum lift procedure needs to be done to get the best results. Photos, X-rays, and measurements are taken at this visit.
The second step is the actual gum lift procedure.
The procedure takes anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour depending on the case.
For the Laser gum lift, within a few days the gums are healed.
For the Surgical Gum Lift, you generally have to wait a few weeks a few weeks for the gums to heal completely.

Does It Hurt?
Generally, the patient is numb and comfortable during the process so there is no pain during the procedure.
Depending on which procedure, the post op may vary. For example, if it’s a simple laser gum contouring, after the procedure it will feel sore and tender in the area similar to a hot coffee burn or pizza burn at the gum line.
If it’s a surgical gum lift, we finish the procedure with sutures/ stiches and the gums will be sore, swollen and tender for a few days.
Most patients just take over the counter tylenol or ibuprofen afterwards and are fine to return to work the next day.

How much does it cost?

It really depends on each case. But it can range from $200 to $500 per tooth.
If you’re a candidate for a laser gum lift on 6 teeth, that could cost $2,000 to $3,000.
If you did a full surgical gum lift for a very gummy smile on ten teeth it could cost up to $5,000.
Again, each case is different and unique.

Do you have to do Veneers after a Gum Lift?
In most cases, veneers do enhance the results of the gum lift. However, there is a small percentage of people that look good just with a Gum Lift. If the teeth are straight, white, and the shape of them is ideal, then only a Gum Lift could be a great option.
